How to prepare your child for a visit at the dentist´s.
Bring your children with you to the clinic at an early age to make sure they get accustomed to the atmosphere. Allow them to make contact with the staff and feel at ease about what´s going on at the dentist´s office. We recommend short appointments only (no periodontal or prosthetic treatments). Leave your child in the care of the dental staff member of your confidence to guide your little one through the entire treatment situation.

Only a good cooperation between the parents and the attending dentist provide a relaxed atmosphere and gentle treatment and avoid traumatic experiences. Children experience things differently from adults. Before treatment, avoid evaluative terms such as drill, pain, injection, tooth extraction and the like. Please do not use NEGATIONS or sentences such as:

  • It is NOT going to hurt!
  • You DON’T have to be afraid!
  • It is NOT going to be so bad!

Your child will take this to mean: It is going to hurt, fear is part of it, and it is definitely going to be a bit bad. As a parent use positive terms when talking about dentist visits!
If you are not sure, don’t say anything at all! Encourage your children to go in the treatment room alone. Should this not be possible at first, an accompanying person may join the child during the treatment.
