OSTHEOPATHY
THE GENTLE THERAPY
Osteopathic medicine is a branch of medicine which views the human body holistically. It emphasizes that the body possesses unlimited self-regulatory mechanisms and the inherent capacity to defend and repair itself. By palpating the patient´s entire body thoroughly the doctor of osteopathic medicine can find blockages and dysfunctions and treat them using manual and physical therapies. Due to its gentle techniques osteopathy is especially suitable for children.
Osteopathy was founded by Andrew Taylor Still, M.D., who was born in 1828 in Virginia. Still was employed as an army doctor during the American Civil War. The horrors of battlefield injury and the subsequent death of his wife and four of his children from infectious diseases left him totally disillusioned with the traditional practice of medicine. Searching for an alternative approach, he discovered the holistic interaction of bones, muscles, tendons, fascia, organs, vessels and the flow of blood. Even today Dr. Stills findings are the foundation of osteopathic medicine.

Osteopathy divides the body in three inter-related anatomic systems:
The parietal, visceral and cranio-sacral system
Osteopathic medicine can be applied for dysfunctions of the:
- the spinal column, bones, joints, muscles (degenerative and inflammatory troubles as well as pain due to former injuries)
- Orthodontics, ENT, cranial area (headaches, migraines, dizziness, tinnitus, sinusitis, inflammation of the middle ear, trouble of the jaw joints, malformation and grinding of the teeth)
- Internal organs (digestive problems, heartburn, hernia, post-operative deformation, heart conditions)

Uro-genital area (bladder, uterus, chronic inflammations, incontinence, menstrual problems, pre- and post-natal preparations)
- Allergies and systemic disorders (hay fever, asthma, rheumatic pains, Bechterew disease)
- Paediatrics, baby care (congenital and birth-traumatic problems, cranial and facial asymmetry, scoliosis, KISS-syndrome, excessive crying and vomiting, three-months-colic, sleep disorders, attention deficit disorders (ADD, ADHD), impairments of the motor nerves, orthopaedic problems)
